2016 has arrived and so are the holiday bills. This week we have a “cheap and cheerful,” 90 point Petite Sirah from 4th generation Napa Valley winemaker, Robert Mondavi Jr.
2013 Spellbound Petite Sirah, Robert Mondavi
Napa Valley, California
Spellbound was born of Rob Mondavi Jr.’s desire to craft every day approachable wines from California that are relaxed enough to enjoy every day, yet special enough to celebrate milestone events. Crafted from grapes from established and emerging regions in California, such as Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley, Santa Barbara and Lodi, the core Spellbound lineup includes the Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay.
90 Points, The Wine Advocate: “The real star, and a sleeper selection for sure, is the outstanding 2013 Petite Sirah. This wine has an inky, ruby/purple color, notes of cassis, blueberry, blackberry fruit, incense and camphor. This is a medium to full-bodied beauty to drink over the next 5-6 years, possibly longer.”
