W.O.M 91 Points and Under $20, Napa Valley Chardonnay

Wine of the Month May 2105

It’s May…break out the grills, open the windows, and drink a glass (or two) of tasty Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This month we have not one but TWO wines. Since last month’s Pinot Noir was such a hit we found a another stunner for under $20. And in an effort to please our Chardonnay lovers, we also have a beautiful Oak Knoll District, Napa Valley Chardonnay. Both will be open for tasting, both are under $20, and on sale through May. Cheers!

2013 Beringer, Luminus Chardonnay | Oak Knoll District, Napa Valley: 91 Points, The Wine Advocate:

“The outstanding 2013 Chardonnay Luminus comes from the Oak Knoll sector of southern Napa Valley. About 25% new oak is used in this cuvée, and it is made from the newer Burgundian clones of Chardonnay as opposed to the Old Wente selection (which actually came from Burgundy many decades ago). This wine exhibits pineapple, poached pear, honeysuckle and buttery melon notes in addition to a subtle use of wood, and a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel. Consume this beauty over the next 4-5 years.”

Regular Price: $37.99

2013 Cambria, Clone 4 Pinot Noir | Santa Maria Valley, California

“Inspired by co-proprietor Julia Jackson, Cambria Winery’s Seeds of Empowerment program celebrates exceptional women who have overcome adversity and recognizes women in communities around the world who have overcome life’s hardships. We strive to empower these “warrior women” by awarding $100,000 annually to non-pro¬fit organizations that embody our pillars: equality, community & spirit.”

Dark garnet in color, this complex Pinot Noir is brimming with rich red fruit, Asian spices and earthy characteristics backed up with a silky tannin structure and a long balanced finish. Likely to please a wide array of palates, this wine is balanced and can be drunk both on its own and/or paired well with food.
