Our family knows and understands that we could not be where we are without the continued support from the wonderful community that we serve. As a result we say Thank You twice a year with our famed Customer Appreciation Sale. Also, our donations in cash and product over the years has amounted to over $500,00.00.

From special events and weddings to special orders for items we don’t carry, to those who continue to choose us or those who have yet to experience what we have to offer, Bay Ridge Wine & Spirits would like to say Thank You! and we look forward to you walking through our doors. If you don’t leave with a smile on your face, our job is not done.

Phillip Altherr

To say that Phil has lived wine for most of life is not an over-statement.

Raised in Ohio, he moved to Maryland in the late 80s, and landed a job in a restaurant. Not knowing much about wine and spirits, he began a crash course of study. Upon turning 21, he was promoted to manager and alcohol purchaser for the hotel for which he worked. With 20 years in the food and beverage industry, doing literally everything—catering, cooking, serving, education and purchasing—Phil found a passion for wine and food and the art of pairing the two.

Phil made the jump to retail six years ago and found a home, furthering his wine education by frequent visits to California wine country—tasting at more than 100 wineries in Napa and Sonoma, working a harvest on Spring Mountain, and attending Napa Premiere auctions. He has also tasted at wineries in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Phil also received his certification as a Bordeaux Educator (in Bordeaux!) and was named a “Master Cheese Professional” from the Artisanal Cheese Center in New York City. Phil has done his Ohio roots proud!

Todd Ross

Mr Todd Ross came to Bay Ridge Wine & Spirits from Weygandt Wines in Washington DC where he was the managing partner, with Mr Peter Weygandt, of their specialty wine shop. Mr Weygandt also happens to be one of the most highly regarded U.S. wine importers.

Before Washington DC, Todd spent nearly 20 years at Mills Wine & Spirits in downtown Annapolis where he was responsible for the procurement of all wine brought into the store. He has traveled extensively in France: Cote d'Or, Chablis, Champagne, the Loire Valley, the Rhone Valley, Bordeaux, California and Spain.

During those years he had the opportunity to taste literally thousands of wines from arguably the best producers in the world. Penfold's Grange Hermitage, Chateau Grillet, Guigal's La LasYves, Torbreck, Chateau d'Yquem, Ridge Monte Bello and the list goes on and on. In doing so he has created a mental catalog of what fine quality means. And while styles may change and are a matter of taste, quality is an absolute to Todd.
