Our wine team has been really excited about Corsican wine recently. The beauties coming out of this region are ripe and rich with a phenomenal backbone of acidity. Some of them can be a little spendy but we searched high and low to find a pick that over delivers for the price. We had to taste over 20 Corsican wines…I know, it’s a tough job but someone has to do it. If you haven’t tried wines from this tiny growing region, they are definitely worth a shot!
“A delicious full-flavored spicy red from Corsica. Clos Alivu is in the northwestern Corsican area of Patrimonio. The Petra Bianca soils, a unique mix of calcareous limestone, clay and schist, and terraced hillside vineyards make this is one of the finest areas for wine in Corsica. 100% Niellucio, a relative of Sangiovese, from 50+-year-old vines. Black cherry and berry, spice, wild lavender, earth, ripe tannin and a pleasant lift.”
